This cookie policy explains which cookies peaceresearch.institute uses and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy policy.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. They let the website remember information between page views, such as whether you are logged in or whether you have visited before. Similar technologies, such as local storage, are covered by this policy too.
2. Cookies we use
We use very few cookies. We do not use advertising cookies, social media tracking pixels, or any cookies that track you across other websites.
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These are needed for the website to work and cannot be switched off. Ordinary visitors do not receive them; they are set only for editors who log in.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
SSESS… | Keeps a logged-in editor’s session active. | Until logout, at most about 23 days |
2.2 Statistics cookies (Matomo)
We use a self-hosted Matomo installation to produce visitor statistics. These cookies are first-party: they are set on this website’s own domain, and the data is not shared with advertisers or other third parties.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
_pk_id.* | Stores a random visitor ID to recognise returning visitors. | 13 months |
_pk_ses.* | Groups page views into a single visit. | 30 minutes |
_pk_ref.* | Remembers which website referred you to us. | 6 months |
_pk_testcookie.* | Checks whether your browser accepts cookies. | Deleted immediately |
If your browser sends a “Do Not Track” signal, Matomo does not track you and sets none of these cookies.
3. Third-party services
Cloudflare Turnstile (spam protection on forms and the login page) is loaded from Cloudflare’s servers. It receives your IP address and browser information in order to tell humans from bots (see the Privacy policy), but is not used for advertising or cross-site tracking. Fonts are served from our own server.
Links to other websites — for example to institutes, journals, universities or Bluesky — take you to sites with their own cookie policies, which we do not control.
4. How to control cookies
- Turn on “Do Not Track” in your browser to opt out of Matomo statistics on this website.
- Block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The public website works fully without cookies.
- Use a browser extension that blocks analytics scripts.
